Indications: PZI Insulin Compounded (Protamine Zinc Insulin) is a compounded insulin product using a rDNA and not a porcine base. It is used to control hyperglycemia (Diabetes mellitus) in cats and dogs, however it is ideally suited for use in cats. PZI Compounded is therapeutically similar to branded PZI insulin (PZI VET & ProZinc). PZI Compounded slowly releases insulin into your cat’s bodily tissue. Insulin requires refrigeration. Overnight shipping is required. Use PZI Compounded with U-40 syringes only.

Caution: Insulin requires refrigeration. Overnight shipping is required. The vial should be gently rolled to re-suspend the insulin before each use, not shaken. PZI Compounded insulin should appear uniformly cloudy or milky after re-suspending. Use PZI Compounded with U-40 syringes only. Use of a syringe other than a U-40 syringe will result in incorrect dosing. Do not give PZI Compounded if your cat is allergic to insulin. Before using PZI Compounded, inform your veterinarian if your cat has any other medical conditions, or if your cat takes any other prescription or over the counter medications, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements. Inform your veterinarian if your cat has any liver or kidney disease; or if your cat is pregnant, nursing, or if you plan to breed your cat. If your pet misses its dose, administer as soon as you remember, If you remember near your pet's next scheduled dose, administer as prescribed, do not double the dose. If your pet is being switched from another insulin product, it is recommended that you consult with your veterinarian as this may require adjusting your pet's dosage.

Drug Iteractions: PZI Compounded can be given with other medications, but the dose may need to be adjusted due to the medication resulting in either increased or decreased insulin requirements. Do not give any other prescription or over the counter medications, including vitamins, minerals and herbal products, without first consulting with your veterinarian or pharmacist during treatment with PZI Compounded.

Side Effects: Allergic reactions to insulin rarely occur. Seek emergency veterinary medical attention if an allergic reaction is experienced (difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Other serious side effects can occur with or without warning. The most common insulin-related side effect is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with symptoms that include; lethargy, staggering gait, seizure or coma. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat has a medical problem or side effect from PZI Compounded therapy. Other side effects may occur. Consult with your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your cat.
