Tacrolimus Ophthalmic 0.02% Compounded 15ml
Prescription Required Use As Directed: Sold Per Bottle
Indications: Tacrolimus is an imunosuppressant agent that is useful in treating immune-mediated Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS, "Dry Eye") in dogs, cats and other animals. KCS causes dry eyes which may eventually lead to blindness. One of the primary causes of KCS is autoimmune destruction of tear gland tissue, which leads to decreased tear production. Tacrolimus eye drops are used to suppress the immune destruction of tear gland tissue in KCS and help restore normal tear production.
Caution: Do not use Tacrolimus if your pet has any fungal, viral or bacterial eye disorders. Do not administer any prescription or over the counter medications without consulting with your veterinarian first. Inform your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating. Should your pet miss its scheduled dose, administer as soon as you remember. Should you remember close to your to your pet's next scheduled dose, adminster as prescribed at your pet's next dosing window, do not double the dose.
Drug Interactions: Tacrolimus for opthalamic use is well tolerated and there have been no significant drug interactions reported to date. Drug interactions may occur. You should consult with your veterinarian prior to administering any prescription or over the counter medications. You should also consult with your veterinarian prior to administering any supplements.
Side Effects: Tacrolimus for opthalamic use is well tolerated and there have been no reports of serious side effects to date. Should your pet experience a significant side effect (i.e. significant swelling), discontinue therapy and seek emergency medical care. Other more common side effects may include: stinging of the eyes, redness and slight itching.
